In our big corporate family, everyone has a different role. We play our part diligently, with a spirit of excellence.
Then there are activities that all employees are encouraged to be a part of: volunteerism. That’s why our late Deputy Chairman, Mr Kwek Leng Joo founded City Sunshine Club (CSC), an employee volunteer platform in 1999.
CSC’s objective is to give back to society, with the mission to light up the lives of the less fortunate through programmes that include elderly befriending, bringing cheer to the terminally ill, mentoring children from less privileged families and reaching out to needy households living in public rental housing.
CSC collaborates with community partners in organising events and outreach activities throughout the year. Here are some highlights:
● CDL started as a venue sponsor for Assisi Hospice’s carnival in 1999. It has since deepened its involvement in Assisi Hospice’s annual event through company-wide participation that rallies contributions from staff, CDL subsidiaries and business partners. The CDL Challenge, established in 2017, was the epitome of CDL’s yearly commitment in raising funds to support the hospice care services. Additionally, Senior Management and CDL staff volunteers organise the annual Mid-Autumn celebration to engage patients and their loved ones in various festive activities.
● As a founding corporate sponsor of Arc Children’s Centre from its 2011 inception, CDL plays an active role in supporting the centre, a haven for children with cancer and serious illnesses. CDL staff volunteers engage these children in various activities, particularly during Christmas, Mid-Autumn Festival and school holidays.
● Since 2012, CDL partners with North West CDC in reaching out to disadvantaged families residing in public rental housing, first at Woodlands and subsequently at Limbang from 2015. The support includes distribution of groceries and festive packs, home improvements, organising Christmas block parties and adoption of children’s wishes, creating conducive learning space and conducting character-building programmes for the children.
Our staff readily give their time and energy to many more worthy causes, and for this dedication, we are deeply grateful and immensely proud.
As Singapore’s property pioneer, we have enjoyed many opportunities and grown alongside our nation.
It is only right that we give back – one smiling volunteer at a time.
Regardless of job title, that’s the DNA we all have in common.
