Buildings are built from the ground up, but an innovation mindset starts from the top.

CDL's Enterprise Innovation Committee

To foster a corporate culture of innovation, City Developments Limited (CDL) formed the Enterprise Innovation Committee (EIC). Established by our Group CEO in 2018 and chaired by our Group COO, the EIC curates and implements customer- and digital-centric solutions that create near- and long-term value for CDL.

In 2020, we put together the Green Building and Technology Application team to complement the EIC's work by identifying scalable technologies that reduce CDL's carbon footprint in our design, building, and asset management processes.

Together, they have made great strides in just a few years, with initiatives that include:

The Ampd Enertainer – This battery genset, introduced to power construction equipment at the Irwell Hill Residences site, lowers energy consumption by more than 80% while reducing CO2 emissions by over 80%. It is about 30 times quieter than traditional diesel generators. We have also used the system at Copen Grand, and plan to deploy it at future sites.

75F by SP Digital – 75F is a micro-climate air-conditioning control solution that uses wireless controls, big data and connected sensors for air-conditioning optimisation. Our pilot project at Republic Plaza saw 18% total energy savings and 15% improvement in occupant thermal comfort. We plan to scale this technology to Newport City.

Gush Solar Films – Gush employs technology to mitigate thermal heat transfer while maintaining high visibility through window facades. This film offers improved light transmissivity and lower heat transfer, and costs 40% less than other name brands. It is currently implemented at Tower Club and Kings Centre.

The EIC began as a small, dedicated committee focusing on problem statements within CDL. It has since grown to include 30 members, spanning across our subsidiaries.

These are just some of the innovations that have been rolled out across CDL and its subsidiaries to achieve our decarbonisation goals. While the ambitions are lofty, the benefits have taken root and are bearing fruit.
