“Today, New Futura has been reborn as a bold and futuristic icon that is recognised for high standards of excellence across multiple disciplines – design, construction and sustainability. It is a timeless landmark that has earned its place in the architectural annals of Singapore’s evolving skyline.”

Mr Sherman Kwek, CDL Group Chief Executive Officer

Singapore, 2 September 2020 – New Futura, an ultra-luxury freehold residence by City Developments Limited (CDL), has emerged as a winner for the prestigious 2020 Urban Land Institute (ULI) Asia Pacific Awards for Excellence. Designed by world-renowned architecture firm, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM) with award-winning local architect, ADDP Architects LLP, New Futura’s stunning architectural flowing fins and dynamic curved balconies that wrap elegantly around the iconic twin 36-storey towers, emplace it as a timeless landmark on Leonie Hill Road in Singapore’s prime District 9. Completed in 2017, the 124-unit residence was launched in 2018 and is fully sold.

Announced on 2 September at the ULI Asia Pacific REImagine virtual conference, New Futura was one of the two winning projects from Singapore – and the sole residential development out of 13 winners. In addition to its bold, futuristic design, the project was recognised for regenerating and enhancing the economic viability of the site efficiently, its considerations for environmental sustainability and its conservation of the innovative design concept and approach of the site – paying tribute to Singapore’s architectural legacy of the former “Futura” which stood in its place in the 1970s. The former “Futura” was renowned for its distinctive design which was way ahead of its time.

CDL Group Chief Executive Officer Mr Sherman Kwek said, “New Futura is one of Singapore’s and CDL’s most unique developments. Our vision was inspired and anchored by the site’s rich architectural legacy in land-scarce Singapore. The former Futura had made its distinctive mark in the last century, and we wanted to reimagine a new icon for this century – a NEW Futura – which became the project’s name. In remaking this icon, we did not just redevelop the site, but we deliberately preserved its innovative spirit of design.”

“Today, New Futura has been reborn as a bold and futuristic icon that is recognised for high standards of excellence across multiple disciplines – design, construction and sustainability. It is a timeless landmark that has earned its place in the architectural annals of Singapore’s evolving skyline.”

“As a property pioneer in Singapore, we are heartened to have our local iconic developments shine on the world stage. We are humbled by this achievement and will continue to strive for excellence across our developments and will remain steadfast in pushing the envelope for innovation and design.”
