Singapore, 16 November 2015 – The Board of Directors of City Developments Limited (CDL) is deeply saddened to announce that Mr Kwek Leng Joo, Deputy Chairman and Executive Director of CDL, aged 62, passed away in his sleep early this morning as a result of a sudden heart attack.

Appointed as a Director of CDL since 1980, Mr Kwek Leng Joo assumed the position of Deputy Managing Director in 1987 and held the role of Managing Director from 1995 until his appointment as Deputy Chairman of CDL in 2014. A dedicated advocate of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for over two decades, his vision had established CDL’s reputation as a leading green building champion and a forerunner in CSR, raising the bar for Singapore’s real estate industry and driving change for the building sector. His pioneering green efforts for over 20 years have helped put CDL and Singapore on the global map of sustainability.

Mr Kwek was also an executive director of City e-Solutions Limited, a subsidiary of CDL listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, a non-executive director of Hong Leong Finance Limited which is listed on the Singapore Exchange and also a director of Hong Leong Investment Holdings Private Limited, the holding company of CDL.

Mr Kwek’s leadership, invaluable contribution and presence will be greatly missed by the Board, management and employees of the CDL Group. The Board sincerely appreciates Mr Kwek’s dedicated service over the years, and together with CDL’s management and employees, extend their deepest sympathies to his family.
