Singapore, 2 March 2015 – The Lunar New Year is a great time for gathering and sharing, especially to share the festive joy with the elderly. On 28 February, CDL management representatives and volunteers from City Sunshine Club (CSC) – CDL’s employee volunteer platform – celebrated the spring festival by treating nearly 50 elderly residents from the Henderson Senior Citizens’ Home to an auspicious Chinese New Year luncheon.
Held at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel Singapore’s Grand Shanghai restaurant, the luncheon was hosted by Mrs Cecilia Kwek, wife of CDL Executive Chairman Mr Kwek Leng Beng, who was joined by CDL senior executives including Chief Investment Officer Mr Sherman Kwek and Chief Strategy Officer Mr Kwek Eik Sheng, as well as employee volunteers.
This festive gathering has been a fond tradition since 2002, and this is the 10th year that CSC has organised this luncheon for beneficiaries from Henderson Senior Citizens’ Home.
Beyond a sumptuous spread, the beneficiaries were also treated to medley of entertaining and energetic performances by the CDL management, which included Mr Sherman Kwek, Mr Kwek Eik Sheng, Chief Executive Officer Mr Grant Kelley and Group General Manager Mr Chia Ngiang Hong. At the end of the luncheon, the beneficiaries were presented with mandarin oranges and red packets, jointly gifted by CDL and Mrs Kwek’s contributions, which signify well-wishes for good health and an auspicious new lunar year ahead.
Initiated in 1999, CSC provides CDL employees with opportunities to engage meaningfully with community partners in providing support to the less fortunate through befriending, youth mentorship and sharing of expertise. In 2014, CDL employees achieved a total of 3,005 volunteer hours with participation rate of 75%.
