Singapore, 16 May 2019 – The multimillion-dollar asset enhancement programme, which spanned nine months, upgraded key facilities within the hotel: the Grand Ballroom, Conference Centre, Lobby, The Orchard Cafe, Bar Intermezzo, and the hotel’s 260 Grand Deluxe rooms.
A grande dame reopens
- Orchard Hotel has unveiled an enhanced 360-degree guest experience. The refurbishment reimagines dining, events and lodgings for business guests and the modern, sophisticated traveller.
A Singapore-first, the Grand Ballroom now has two floor-to-ceiling LED walls. Guests can now be dazzled by floor-to-ceiling videos and animated visuals.
Polished public spaces
A brand-new arrival experience welcomes guests through an enlivened lobby interior. The hotel’s iconic clock tower has been brought up-to-date with a contemporary chandelier-inspired art sculpture. The clock tower is flanked by two upgraded F&B destinations, The Orchard Cafe and Bar Intermezzo.
Overlooking the lobby from the second floor is Cantonese fine dining stalwart Hua Ting Restaurant, which was given its own extensive makeover in 2018.
Exclusive events
The Grand Ballroom, one of Singapore’s largest pillar-free ballrooms, has a luxurious new look: an impressive foyer lined with floating orchid-inspired chandeliers, and exclusive spaces carved out for various uses.
The 10,000-square-feet and six-metres high ballroom also boasts a Singapore-first: two floor-to-ceiling LED walls with statement lighting state-of-the-art audio-visual capabilities.
The other refurbished conference and function rooms and spaces are now more versatile than ever.
The conference centre has been redesigned with five intimate meeting rooms and upgraded meeting facilities. Event planners now have numerous creative catering options to choose from: the hotel’s four award-winning culinary concepts—Hua Ting Restaurant, The Orchard Cafe, Mon Bijou and Bar Intermezzo – as well as a Halal-certified kitchen.
New Grand Deluxe rooms
The 260 Grand Deluxe guest rooms in the hotel’s Orchard Wing have been redesigned with today’s sophisticated traveller in mind. Upgraded amenities include a Handy smartphone for unlimited data calls in local and worldwide, six USB ports, wired and wireless high-speed internet connectivity, and a Smart TV.
Guests can also unwind in a luxurious Japanese soaking tub (available in select room configurations). They can also call for one of 12 signature spice-based cocktails from Bar Intermezzo to be delivered right to their rooms.
A storied history
Orchard Hotel opened in the late 1950s as a humble four-storey, 34-room establishment. The Golden Venus was home to popular tea dances and emerging musicians of the 1960s.
Redeveloped in the 1970s to cater to the tourist boom, the old building was eventually demolished in 1978, and the first inkling of the 656-key, twin-tower Orchard Hotel Singapore as it exists today took its place.
“With such a rich history and iconic address in the heart of Singapore’s renowned shopping and entertainment belt,” said Mr Jean-Philippe Jacopin, General Manager for Orchard Hotel, “we needed a hotel that can continue to stand the test of time. Our team, from front-of-house to back-of-house, has been working tirelessly day and night to make this enhancement a success, all while never turning away a single guest.“
